studied at the Universities of Mainz and Freiburg i.Br. Philosophy, Catholic Theology, Religious Studies, and Ancient History. Doctorate to Dr. Phil. (Philosophy / University of Freiburg) 1973, habilitation for Dr. theol. habil. (Catholic Theology / University of Freiburg) 1982 and Venia legendi for the subject of religious history, since 2001 Professor of Religious Studies at the Theological Faculty of the University of Freiburg i.Br., also an honorary professor at the KH Freiburg, in Tbilisi (Georgia), Yerevan (Armenia) and at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (Peru). 2008 Award of the Federal Cross of Merit for “Merits in interreligious dialogue at home and abroad”. From 2011-2015 director of the “Institute West-Eastern Wisdom at the University of Freiburg”,
